IIB or the Insurance Information Bureau of India handles the vehicle insurance policies in India. You can track accident records and check vehicle insurance details. Introduced by IRDAI, you can check your policy number by entering the required information.

  • Go to the IIB website.
  • Under the “Quick link” section, click on the “V-Seva.
  • A new page will be opened.
  • Fill in the details. You need to put all the necessary information there (mentioned Below).

  2. Email ID
  3. Mobile number
  4. Address
  5. Registration number
  6. Accident date
  7. Accident place
  • Enter the Captcha.
  • Click on “Submit.”

You will be able to get all the information related to your vehicle insurance details. If you don’t get the details, there might be two problems. Either your information is not submitted on the website, or your insurance provider hasn’t updated the details yet.

How to check vehicle insurance status online through VAHAN

  • Go to the VAHAN website.
  • Click on the “Know your vehicle details.”
  • Enter the registration number and Captcha code for verification.
  • Click on the “Search vehicle” option.

Your car insurance details will be in front of your eyes.

There is an offline mode also available. Either you have to go nearest RTO, or you can contact your insurance provider. Both of which can be time-consuming.

Types of vehicle insurance in India

  • Third-party coverage

As per the rules of IRDAI, this policy doesn’t provide any direct benefit, and no insurer can decline this. The third-party policy is mandatory under the Motor Vehicle Act.

  • Comprehensive coverage

This policy provides third-party coverage also. It protects the owner from financial losses caused by natural or human-made calamities. It is the most popular as it allows for end to end coverage.

  • Pay as you drive coverage

It works as per the kilometres you drive. Under the guidelines of IRDAI, this is a new car insurance coverage. It provides both of the above policies also. Right now, Bharti AXA, ICICI Lombard, Acko General are providing through its online or offline mode. Pay as you drive is to be decided when you are buying the policy depending on your expected driving distance.

What to do when you have lost your insurance card

You get two insurance cards. One of which you keep with your vehicle and the other you keep at home. If you lose two cards, then ask for the insurance provider. Either she/he will provide you with the online resources or mail you a new card. Nowadays, digital cards are accepted in most of the states as proof of insurance.

How to file an insurance claim

You need to consider some points before submitting an insurance claim.

  • Time and date of the accident
